Amazing dogs but when bred wrong they do not come without a bleak price.
Sometimes inexperienced breeders fail to research and genetically test their dogs which results in heart breaking stories of these beautiful dogs with medical conditions such as Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Skin Diseases, and the grim one; Canine Degenerative Myelopothy.
- Canine degenerative myelopathy, or DM, is a disease of the spinal cord that usually strikes dogs between the ages of 8 and 14. Certain breeds are prone to the disease, in particular the German shepherd.
- Symptoms of canine DM involve loss of coordination in the hind limbs -- usually one, then the other – with eventual complete loss of use. Sometimes there is also loss of bowel and bladder control.
How I better the breed.
Having experienced having a dog suffer and pass away from DM, I work hard to make sure I am producing 100% healthy and happy dogs. I take pride in knowing that my dogs are genetically tested for DM and other diseases and test negative for any genetic medical issues.
